All women - Romeo and Juliet

“Shakespeare's timeless tale of ill-fated love is given a fresh twist…it’s a girls world - it’s a gay world!”
Brought to you by the all-female community theatre group
Tallulah Theatre

7.30 Sunday June 3rd 2012, The Bierkeller Theatre,  All Saints Street, Bristol, BS1 2NA

Through the hate of warring factions, in defiance of their families and in secrecy from their closest friends, two women risk all they have to be together...
Tallulah Theatre is an arts council funded community Theatre company for lesbian and transgendered women. The group runs on alternate Sundays in Bath and celebrates diversity. The group is led by professional theatre maker Louise Barrett and professional actress/director Tessa McGinn.
The aim of the community group is to give lesbian and transgender women the opportunity to explore classic and modern texts that have been originally written to tell a heterosexual tale. In doing this we explore our own notion of love and community, acceptance and freedom.
“We love turning the world on its head and giving platform to timeless classics that suddenly excite as they have a new statement about the modern relationship and modern values…”
The show is abridged and lasts 70 minutes and is followed by a fantastic party with live DJ music and dancing!
A minimalist, modern set, combined with simple costumes creates a hostile, harsh setting for this all-female production. The play begins with the violent fracas between the two families and moves fast paced to the inevitable tragic conclusion.
This is Tallulah Theatre’s second performance of the Shakespeare love story with the Sapphic twist, following their debut at the Brewhouse Theatre, Taunton’s Outset Festival earlier this year.
£10.00 ticket includes Jubilee weekend post show party at the Bierkeller: with DJ and dancing - till late!
