Bristol Reclaim the Night will be taking place on the evening of Friday 26th Feb
After the phenomenal success of last year's Reclaim the Night which brought together over 500 marchers, Bristol Feminist Network are urging the women and men of Bristol to gather once more and protest against the continued horror of sexual violence.
Reclaim the Night is an international campaign against sexual violence. The march is a public reminder that no one should have to live in the shadow of violence and that we all have the equal right to walk freely through the city streets.
In Bristol we have organised an evening of events and welcome you to join us:
5pm – Gather for a candle-lit vigil in College Green [map]
6pm – March Begins! Make some noise with the samba bands and reclaim the night!
8pm – March reaches the Bridewell Island art centre [map]
8.30pm – Speeches from 3 local organisations
9.30pm – Music and celebrations until 2am at the Island. Suggested donation £2 before 10pm, £5 after. All profits to local victim support organisations.
Bristol Reclaim the Night aims to be more than an expression of protest and we have three aims to make a lasting difference in our city:
1. Support for victims and survivors of sexual violence, including continuing to support Rape Crisis and other charities who give such excellent and needed care to victims and survivors.
2. Encouraging better education around violence against women, including education around respect in relationships and busting rape myths that still, terrifyingly, prevail.
3. Secure justice for victims and survivors of sexual violence, by trying to improve the horrifically low conviction rate.
